A Mobile Air Traffic Control Tower is to be procured at a cost of Rs 300 million to be set-up at the Palaly Airport.

Cabinet approval to that effect had been granted during today's cabinet meeting. The proposal had been put forward by Civil Aviation Minister Arjuna Ranatunga.

Regional flights between Sri Lanka and India are expected to commence by mid-October.

Meanwhile, cabinet approval has also been granted to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with India to develop the Palaly Airport.

Accordingly, the agreement would be signed by the Secretary to the Ministry of Civil Aviation which would bear the cost for the development project.
