In a bid to prevent extremist terrorist groups from entering the country, the Department of Immigration this week will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with security agencies to ensure added border security, Home Affairs Minister Vajira Abeywardena said.

Mr. Abeywardena said that the agreement would be signed with  INTERPOL, recognized airlines, and relevant security agencies to implement an iBorder Management System.

Accordingly, airlines will provide the Department of Immigration with the particulars of its passengers, 48 hours before taking off from countries which have been affected by terrorism.

These details would be examined by the relevant authorities including the State Intelligence Service before a passenger enters the country.
