The Attorney General (AG) today (Sept 11) filed indictments against the suspects involved in the Rathupaswala shooting incident, the AG's Co-ordinating Secretary Nishara Jayaratne said.

These indictments had been filed at the trial-at-bar which had been appointed at the Gampaha High Court.

AG Dappula de Livera had previously stated that charges would be filed under 94 counts against four persons including breaching Section 450 (4) of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The accused in the case are Brigadier Anura Deshapriya Gunawardena, Dingiri Arunage Sirisena, Jayasundara Mudiyanselage Thilakaratne, and Lalith Grey.

The incident had taken place on August 1, 2013, as gun shots were fired at residents who demanded the closure of Venigros (Pvt) Ltd which was alleged to have been polluting water in the area. The incident had left three people dead and injured 45 others.
