The Department of Meteorology has issued a heavy rain and strong wind advisory for the deep and shallow sea areas off the coast extending from Hikkaduwa to Matara via Galle valid from 10.00 am until 3.00 pm today (11).

The Met Department notes that  due to the active cloudiness in the southwestern sea areas, the possibility for heavy showers / thundershowers and sudden roughness, associated with sudden increase of wind speed (up to 70- 80 kmph) in the above given sea areas is high.

Naval and fishing communities have been advised to remain vigilant in this regard.
