Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe who is due to appear before a Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) tomorrow over a complaint regarding the Agriculture Ministry's building, has been given time till Sept 16 to appear before the Commission.

Mr. Wickremesinghe is due to attend several pre-scheduled events in Mannar tomorrow (Sept 12) and informed the Commission in writing.

Accordingly, the Commission had informed the Prime Minister to appear before the Commission at 9:30 am on September 16, a spokesman for the Commission said.

The Agriculture Ministry had vacated its building in Battaramulla in 2015 after the Prime Minister had put forward a cabinet proposal to use the building for the activities of 17 Parliamentary Sectoral Oversight Committees.

Accordingly, the Ministry had then purchased a building owned by D.P.A Jayasinghe Company by paying a monthly rent of Rs 21.5 million.

A complaint against the exorbitant rent had been filed at the PCoI which is probing state sector corruption under the current government.
