Wheat flour prices won't be reduced ; Prima Company tells agents

The Prima Company has informed its sales agents that wheat flour prices will not be reduced under any circumstances, a day after the Agriculture Minister said that wheat flour prices would be reduced.

Minister Harrison yesterday (Sept 10) said that wheat flour companies had agreed to reduce the prices following a meeting with the Cost of Living Cabinet Sub-Committee.

However, the company's agents have reportedly been informed that the rising prices in the world market and high importation taxes led to the hike in wheat flour prices up to Rs 5.50 last week.

Following the price hike, the Bakery Owners Association announced that the prices of bread too would be increased by Rs 2.

Meanwhile, sales agents claim that wheat flour is being sold at varying rates between Rs 90 and Rs 100 in the local market.
