Rajitha instructs against issuing prescriptions for private tests and purchase of medicines

23 August 2019 - 81   - 0

Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne has instructed the Colombo General Hospital to refrain from issuing prescriptions for patients to purchase medicines or undergo tests at private laboratories.

The Minister had made these remarks when he had engaged in an unannounced visit to the hospital in the wake of the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA)’s token strike which ended today (Aug 23).

The GMOA had launched the strike yesterday citing the shortage of medicines at hospitals, issues on medical education, and problems pertaining to the transfer of doctors.

The Ministry of Health said that Mr. Senaratne had met officials at the hospital and the patients during his visit today.
