Labour Department's new building declared open in Narahenpitiya

The newly-constructed 'Mehewara Piyasa' building of the Labour Department which was constructed at a cost of Rs 8.5 billion was declared open in Narahenpitiya today (Aug 20).

The building, claimed to be the tallest one owned by the government, is located along Bernard Soysa Mawatha, and was vested with the public by President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Issuing a statement, the Department of Labour stated that construction activities of the building which consists of 32 floors began in 2009.

The Labour Ministry, Labour Department, Employees' Provident Fund (EPF), and certain offices of the Central Bank and the Inland Revenue Department will be located in this building.

Accordingly, employees will be able to report any issues related to their workplace, inquire on EPF-related matters and also register trade unions at the building.
