23 July 2019 - 44   - 1

The families of eight victims who lost their lives in the recent floods will receive compensation worth Rs 250,000 each, Minister Ranjith Madduma Bandara said.

The Public Administration Ministry has already disbursed Rs 25,000 each as temporary relief to assist in the repairs of around 3000 houses which had been partially destroyed by the floods, he noted.

Meanwhile, an assesment will be carried out on the houses which have been totally destroyed, in order to provide compensation or reconstruct houses, the Public Administration and Disaster Management Minister added.

It is a pity that everywhere there are landslides taking place in heavy rainy days. Please note there is no proper system to pass the rainwater during the heavy rains in the hilly areas. Just visit Malaysia, Australia how the hilly side houses are built. You just allocate the land to the poor people and allow them to build the houses on their own and then everything is in a mess.Even at Ginigathenna it's the same.No proper study has been done. In future please get a consultant to advise for any projects in the hilly areas. We are not living in the land of fools. In the future, please don't break the rocks in the Hill Country and import rocks from other countries.
