Two police officers hospitalised following attack at gambling den

Two police officers have been admitted to the Kalutara hospital following an attack while raiding a gambling den in Kalutara, a Police official told Times Online.

According to the police, the incident had occurred when three police officers had attempted to arrest a group of gamblers in the area.

One suspect had been arrested during the raid while the others had fled the area.

However, a group had attacked the police officers using stones while they had attempted to confiscate a motorcycle belonging to the gamblers.

The victims have been identified as a sub police inspector and a constable (driver).

A 39-year old resident of Bombuwala, Kalutara, who was identified as a suspect involved in the attack, had been arrested last night. He is due to be produced before the Kalutara Magistrate’s Court today (Jul 17).
