The no-confidence motion against the government was defeated with 119 votes against and 92 in favour this evening.

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) had submitted the motion in a bid to defeat the government over their failure to prevent the Easter Sunday attacks.

The motion was taken up for a vote this evening following a two-day long debate which began yesterday (Jul 10).

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) knew that they will lose, they did it to gain publicity out of public money. These politicians waste public money. Like in the past they could have carried tills and collected money for charity instead of wasting time and public money.
