More travellers visited Sri Lanka in June

3 July 2019 - 212   - 0

Tourist visiting Sri Lanka increased in June compared to the previous month but continued to be a drop from last year figures for the same month.

The sharp drop is mainly attributed to the Easter Sunday bombings and in its aftermath a number of travel advisories issued by a number of key markets against travel to Sri Lanka.

The total number of arrivals in June was recorded at 63,072 indicating a drop of 57 per cent when compared to the 146,828 tourists that visited the country during the same period last year, official data released on Wednesday showed.

The largest source market for tourists was India at 15,048, followed by Australia at 4,410 the UK at 4,365 and China at 3,496. (SD)
