The United States (US) State Department has revised the US travel advisory on Sri Lanka from level 3 to 2, the US Embassy in Colombo announced via their Twitter account and Facebook page.

"The Department lifted the ordered departure status of family members of U.S. government employees under the age of 18 as well as the authorized departure status of non-emergency U.S. government employees and family members" the US State Department said in a statement and requested American travelers to exercise increased caution when travelling to Sri Lanka.

The State Department also warned that "Terrorists may attack with little or no warning, targeting tourist locations, transportation hubs, markets, shopping malls, government facilities, hotels, clubs, restaurants, places of worship, parks, major sporting and cultural events, educational institutions, airports, hospitals, and other public areas."

The US had increased the travel advisory to level 2 which requested travelers to reconsider travel to Sri Lanka on the 26th of April after the Easter Sunday attacks. The family members of some of the US employees in Sri Lanka were returned to America as a precautionary measure.
