Rajitha seeks Rs 1 billion from GMOA, media outlets over 'false' remarks against him

Minister Rajitha Senaratne has sought a compensation of Rs 1 billion over certain false remarks made by the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) against him, the Health Ministry said today (Jun 18).

Issuing a press release, the Health Ministry stated that the GMOA had made certain false remarks at a press briefing on June 17 this year.

Accordingly, Mr. Senaratne, through his lawyers, will send a letter of demand to the GMOA and the media institutions which had given coverage to such defamatory statements.

The Health Minister had not taken any action against the GMOA since he had respected the medical profession, the Ministry said adding that he would take severe action against the the medical officers body in future.
