The Chief Justice has permitted the Bribery Commission to charge the President's former chief-of-staff and the former State Timber Corporation Chairman, at the Special High Court, over a bribery case.
Former chief-of staff Kusumdasa Mahanama, and ex-STC Chairman P. Dissanayake have been accused of obtaining bribe to assist a businessman in accquiring some machinery and buildings of the Kantale Sugar factory.
The case was being heard at the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court.
During yesterday's hearing, the Bribery Commission told court that they would file a case against the suspects at the Special High Court.
Officials of the Bribery Commission had arrested the suspects while they were accepting Rs 20 million of the bribe at a hotel in Colombo.
The total value of the bribe which stood at Rs 540 million, had been reduced to Rs 100 million after negotiations between both parties.
