The global governing body for football, FIFA, officially cancelled the FIFA World Cup and AFC Asian Cup qualification Match Day 2 match between Sri Lanka and Macau, scheduled to be played on Tuesday (11) in Colombo.

"With the official announcement by the Macau FA to FIFA of their decision not travel to Sri Lanka, FIFA has now officially cancelled the above match which was to be played on June 11 in Colombo," the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL), issuing an official statement, said.

Earlier, Macau FA has requested FFSL to consider playing the above match in a neutral country citing security concerns after Easter Attacks.

However, Sri Lanka Football Authorities stand firm to confirm that Sri Lanka is safe and as normal as before and special security plans were put in place to play this game.

"FFSL wanted to use this occasion to show the world that Sri Lanka is ready to host any international events and to stand together with all communities as one to show solidarity to sports. It was an effort to show everyone that Sri Lankan are still living in harmony and peace with each other except few isolated minor incidents."

FIFA will announce the progress of Sri Lankan national team on the competition in few weeks.

FFSL will make official announcement once the decision of the match results is announced by FIFA.
