SLC releases names of 15-member squad for ICC World Cup 2019

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) today released its 15-member squad which will take part at the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup in England and Wales.

Yesterday, SLC, in press communiqué confirmed that Dimuth Karunaratne has been appointed as the captain of the team.

The rest of the players who were selected to the squad are as follows:

  • Angelo Mathews
  • Thisara Perera
  • Kusal Janith Perera
  • Dhananjaya de Silva
  • Kusal Mendis
  • Isuru Udana
  • Milinda Siriwardena
  • Avishka Fernando
  • Jeewan Mendis
  • Lahiru Thirimanne
  • Jeffrey Vandersay 
  • Nuwan Pradeep 
  • Suranga Lakmal

  • Oshada Fernando
  • Angelo Perera
  • Wanidu Hasaranga de Silva
  • Kasun Rajitha

Sri Lanka will leave on May 7 to England for a one week camp before heading to Scotland to play two ODIs. Sri Lanka’s opening World Cup match is against New Zealand on June 1, 2019.

  •  7 June: Vs Pakistan at Bristol

  •  28 June: Vs South Africa at Chester-Le-Street
  •  1 July: Vs West Indies at Chester-Le-Street
  •  6 July : Vs India at Leeds

    It is a good decision to give opening slots to Dimuth and Tiri by dropping proven failures like Niroshan and Tharanga. However, it is a senseless blunder to select Milinda, Jeewan and Nuwan who are not very talented and sure to disappoint. They should have included Chameera and Chandimal.

    Fair selection...would have liked to see Kamindu Mendis in the squad instead of Kusal Mendis who has been a total failure even in the Provincial games.....he scores once in about 20 ings....anyway good luck to the Team....
