A family requires a minimum of Rs 500,000 to survive : Minister Daya Gamage

Primary Industries and Social Empowerment Minister Daya Gamage while speaking at an event said that a family of todays needs a minimum income of Rs 500,000 in order to survive.

He made this remark while addressing the 'World Social Work Day' event which was organised by the Ministry of Primary Industries and Social Empowerment along with the National Institute of Social Development at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute.

"I am hoping to increase the income of a family upto Rs 500,000 through the Samurdhi scheme. It is extremely difficult for a family to survive without earning a minimum of Rs 500,000," the Minister said.

He added that ino rder to take the country forward to a level where every family is able to earn comfortably everyone's support was required including that of the people in order to achieve this goal.
