A minor earth tremor was reported in Badulla, Hali Ela, Welimada, and Passara between 8:15 - 8:30 am today (Mar 16).

"The people need not panic since this tremor was caused due to a minute vibration," Deputy Director of the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) K. Kodippili told Times Online.

He added that there is no need to fear of an earthquake since there are no tectonic plate movements within Sri Lanka

Mr. Kodippili said that measures are being taken to determine the magnitude of the earth tremor which occured in these areas.
