A Hungarian national has been abused by a driver of a van. The incident took place in the vicinity of the Dodanduwa Bridge in Galle today (Feb 19).

The foreigner, a youth, had arrived in the country on December 25 and was temporarily residing at a hotel in Hikkaduwa until yesterday. She had hired a van to pick-up her fiance who had arrived in the country today.

During the early hours of today, the victim was waiting for the van to arrive in close proximity to a private bank in Hikkaduwa. A driver who had arrived in a van at the location had told the youth that it was the vehicle she was waiting for.

The youth was then picked up and later abused inside the van near the Dodanduwa Bridge, police said adding that a complaint has been filed by the victim in this regard.

It is reported that the driver of the van had fled the area after dropping off the girl.
