The Bribery Commission today informed the Appeal court that the cases filed against former CJ Mohan Peiris, Appeal Court Judge A.H.M.D. Nawas and former CEB Secretary M.M.C Ferdinandez could not be heard owing to a Supreme Court interim order that has been filed on hearing the case.

Cases were filed against the said individuals for failing to act against those involved in a fraud while purchasing land belonging to Lanka Electricity Co. (Pvt) Ltd. (LECO).

Accordingly, the Court of Appeal had ordered officials of the Bribery Commission to provide an update on the status of this case that was heard at the Supreme Court, on February 26.

The former Chief Justice has been accused of not filing cases and submitting a false report during his tenure as Attorney General against those involved in the fraud.

Appeal Court Judge A.H.M.D. Nawas has also been named as a suspect since he functioned as the Deputy Solicitor General at the time in which the fraud had been committed.

The suspects have been accused of violating Section 70 of the Bribery Act.
