President Maithripala Sirisena has said that a circular would be issued to make mandatory the license on chain saws which are used to cut trees, in the near future.

"Those in the possession of hand saws must hand them over to their respective police stations between February 15 and March 01" the President said while addressing a special ceremony at the BMICH yesterday (Feb 11).

The Police Stations will maintain a record of people who own chain saws and will also issue licenses to permit the use of such machinery, Mr. Sirisena added.

Speaking on the same lines, President Sirisena said that those in the possession of hand saws without a valid license would be arrested and tried in courts.

"All these decisions have been taken for the betterment of the future generations to come," he said while delivering his address at the ceremony.
