Mangala appoints committee to analyse behaviour of state media outlets

Minister Mangala Samaraweera has appointed a committee to study the reportage of state media in a bid to transform such institutions to serve the people.

Senior media personalities have opined that the government must ensure that state-run media institutions serve the public before taking measures against private media outlets, the Ministry of Finance and Mass Media said in a press release.

Accordingly, a seven-member committee was appointed today (Feb 11) to analyse and provide recommendations concerning the behaviour of state-run media institutions.

The committee is chaired by Vijayananda Jayaweera, Director (Retired) of the International Programme for the Development of Communication.

The other members in the committee are as follows :

  • Professor Jayadeva Uyangoda
  • Dr. Pradeep Weearasinghe – Senior Lecturer at the Colombo University, Chairman of National Secretariat for Media Reforms
  • Dr Anoma Rajakaruna – Film Director
  • Justice Sudarshana Gunawardana
  • Nalaka Gunawardana – Communications Advisor
  • Kaushalya Fernando – Actress, Lecturer at the Sri Jayawardenapura University.
