LRDC Chairman to appear before Special High Court on Jan 17

11 January 2019 - 129   - 0

The Chairman of the Land Reclamation and Development Corporation (LRDC) was ordered to be present before the special high court on January 17.

This is with regard to the case filed by the attorney general on the misappropriation of Rs 33.9 million worth state funds by Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and seven others in the construction of the D.A. Rajapaksa memorial musuem.

During today's hearing, the lawyer representing the LRDC had informed court that certain documents requested by the defendant could not be found.

In response, Deputy Solicitor General Dileep Peiris had called the statement as unacceptable while claiming that the LRDC legal team had not coordinated properly with the Police in this regard.

Mr. Peiris had then requested court to summon the LRDC Chairman before courts in order to ascertain whether the relevant documents could be obtained or not.

Accordingly, court had accepted the request and ordered the Chairman to be present on the said date.

Meanwhile, the permanent three-member trial-at bar also decided to hear the case on a daily basis starting from January 22.
