Football: FFSL President appointed Head of Delegation for Asian Cup

Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) revealed that its President, Anura de Silva has been appointed as Head of AFC Delegation for the Sharjah Stadium, for the ongoing Asian Cup 2019.

"Please be informed that the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) appointed FFSL President Anura de Silva as Head of AFC Delegation for Sharjah Stadium which is one of the official venues for ongoing AFC Asian Cup in UAE", an FFSL media release stated.

The championship kicked off on Saturday (5) with the final to be played on February 1 in Abu Dhabi, UAE. 

A total of 24 nations of Asian Continent compete in this championship for this prestigious trophy.

AFC Asian Cup is the Asia’s biggest competition whiles the second oldest continental competition in World Football. 

"Mr. de Silva is on duty for AFC from January 4 to 22 and this is a great opportunity for a Sri Lankan to hold a high position during the highest competition of Asia in football."

"He is one of the talented administrator who is having vast experience in football administration joined with FFSL in 2008 and gradually promoted to this level. He served for Sri Lankan Football as a player as well as an administrator for long."

"Actually, this is a proud moment for me as well as my country to have this biggest opportunity, and also our dream is to see Sri Lanka also compete at the highest level in near future. We, as a team will give our most to reach that target successfully," commented de Silva.
