An Australian woman and her daughter were killed when the van they were traveling in crashed into a parked container truck near the 65 kilometre post near the Kurundugahahetekkma Interchange on the Southern Expressway this morning (20).

Two other Australian nationals and a Sri Lankan national were also injured in the incident.

Police said the container had been parked on the side of the road due to a technical issue and the van, which was traveling from Kottawa towards Galle had crashed into it and overturned.

The injured were admitted to the Nagoda Hospital where the mother and daughter died. Police identified the deceased as 37-year-old Colin Louis Monica and her four-year-old daughter, Colin Poppy Gabriel.

Elpitiya Police are conducting investigations into the incident.

Were there seatbelts in the van? Sorry, stupid question. THERE ARE NEVER SEATBELTS IN THE VANS! If I go anywhere I now pay for 2 taxis rather than risk the life of my wife and children with these idiots.
