Main suspect in Kirivehera Chief Prelate's shooting named

Police have identified the main suspect in the shooting of Chief Incumbent of the Kataragama Kirivehera Rajamaha Viharaya, Ven. Kobawaka Damminda Thera.

According to police, the main suspect is Aslea Bandara, who had once been the Chief 'Kapu Mahaththaya' at the Kirivehera Rajamaha Viharaya's Mahasen Devalaya. The suspect has fled the area and is currently evading arrest. 

It is believed that a dispute over the custodianship of the Mahasen Devalaya is believed to have been the motive behind the shooting. 

Police had raided main suspect's home last evening and recovered 10 live rounds of ammunition, two kns knives and two swords from the premises. 

Ven. Damminda Thera and another monk were injured after being shot by several gunmen within the Kirivehera Rajamaha Viharaya on Tuesday night.
