14 May 2018 - 33   - 0

The finals of the Sunquick National Beach Volleyball Championships, conducted by the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation (SLVB), will take place on May 19, from 12.00noon, at the new Sugathadasa Stadium Beach Volleyball Court, which will be declared open after the first final.

A total of 112 teams took part in the tournament was conducted under 2 categories- Men and Women, Open and Under-21.

The tournament is sponsored by CW Mackie PLC and Sunquick Lanka Private Ltd.

At a press conference last weekend at Olympic House, presided over by SLVB President Ranjith Siyambalapitiya and CW Mackie PLC Director Mangala Perera, Siyambalapitiya said he is happy that Sunquick has come forward to sponsor the event after several years.

From 2006, Sunquick has been sponsoring the event from time to time.

“Our National Sport is Volleyball and the indications are that Sri Lanka can forge ahead through Beach Volleyball. Beach Volleyball, which was earlier confined to the beaches, has now gone into the country as well,” said Siyambalapitiya.

CW Mackie Director Mangala Perera said they are happy to be involved in the sponsorship of Beach Volleyball. “Our aim is to push the sport internationally and take the sport further.

At one time, Sri Lanka was 3rd in Beach Volleyball. On another occasion, Sri Lanka was 7th.

According to past performances, I am certain Sri Lanka can reach top spot in Asia," Perera stated.
