The second day of Colombo Fashion Week’s main designer showcase took place on March 23 at Hilton Colombo’s Grand Ballroom. Day two started out with a collection by Parisian Haute Couture designer, Eymeric François. The collection which featured form fitting and sultry designs has a very femme fatale aura to it.
This was followed up by a men’s and women’s wear collection from LICC jeans, centred around denim. Designer Catherine Rawson’s designs for ‘The Old Railway’ collection brought to the runaway a taste of South London street style. While Asanga De Mel’s ‘LOVI Ceylon’ wowed the crowd with its modern take on Ancient Ceylon.
The collection by ‘Maus’ was a more relaxed tropical feel, with the use of crushed linen. What was most interesting in that collection were the male jumpsuits. Indeevari Yapa Abeywardena’s ‘Indi’ which is know for its heavy use of embroidery and silks, delivered just that with this collection. Inspired by Bohemian themes, the collection saw elegant designs accented with handwoven and textured fabrics and a heavy use of lace and embroidery.
The night also saw a collection by Indian Designer Urvarshi Kaur, who used traditional Indian fabrics and patterns and gave it a cosmopolitan twist with her modern designs. The night ended with a stunning Batik and patchwork collection by Sonali Dharmawardena.
