Reports of sporadic attacks on rival candidates and supporters

Despite a relatively incident free election, sporadic attacks on rival candidates and supporters in various parts of the country causing damages to houses, buildings and other property, Police said.


In one of the incidents the house of a UNP candidate was attacked in the early hours of yesterday, in Udappuwa, Puttalam district.

Damages were caused to his windows in the attack, but no injuries were caused. 

In Meegahakiwula, in the Kalutara district, five persons were injured in a clash between supporters of the UNP and the Sri Lanka Podujana Party last night. 

All five of them were hospitalized.
