UPDATE - Share prices gain in early trades in Colombo

12 February 2018 - 125   - 0

Share prices gained marginally in early trade on Monday, as brokers said the market appeared to be unaffected by Saturday's election in which the main opposition party swept the poll. The All Share Price index gained by 0.20 per cent at 6,585 by 10 am.

The main opposition Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) led by former President Mahind Rajapaksa pulled off an unlikely victory, securing 45 per cent of the vote at Saturday's islandwide poll compared to the United National Party (UNP)'s 33 per cent. The UNP is the main partner in the coalition government. - ENDS -
