Only 10 trains have operated since last night when railway engine drivers and guards launched a sudden strike, railway authorities said.

According to the Railway Main Control Room officials, only 10 train services have operated so far. They have been on the Coastal line and Main Line today. No trains have operated on the Kelaniweli Line.

The strike, which began last evening, continues today and trade unions warn they are not prepared to return to work unless their demands are met.

On average, Sri Lanka Railways operates about 350 trains on a working weekday, the Railway Main Control Room said
