Dr. Neville Fernando Teaching Hospital nationalised

The controversial Dr. Neville Fernando Teaching Hospital was nationalised today with signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the government and the hospital authorities. President Maithripala Sirisena presided the event.

Secretary of Health Ministry Janaka Sugadadasa and proprietor of the hospital Dr Neville Fernando signed the MoU. The Rs 3.5 billion worth teaching hospital is equipped with latest medical facilities.

Accordingly, Dr. Neville Fernando Hospital will be operated as a government hospital from August 01, 2017.

The hospital, which is worth Rs. 3.5 billion, is equipped with all required facilities for a teaching hospital. It has an area of 180,600 sq feet and has been built according to the green concept. The hospital consists of one four storied building and two eight storied buildings.

Minister of Health Dr Rajitha Senarathne, Minister of Higher Education and Highways, Lakshman Kiriella and Deputy Minister of Health, Faizal Kasim were among those who participated in this event.
