Building Collapse: At least two persons still missing

19 May 2017 - 124   - 0

Rescue operations are continuing in Wellawatta to find two persons still reported to be missing after the collapse of a multi-storey building near the Savoy Cinema yesterday.

At least 24 people were injured in the incident and admitted to the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital and the Colombo National Hospital. One of the victims later succumbed to his injuries.

Heavy rains experienced in Colombo from last afternoon hampered rescuers as they searched for victims trapped under the rubble.

The building had been under construction for several years and most of the injured were construction workers.
