Amarillo School of Music - annual production on today

6 April 2017 - 137   - 0

The Amarillo School of Music was established in 2007 by Dharshan Wijesooriya, a well known figure in the entertainment industry. Born out of a love for music and the drive to encourage people of all ages to take an interest in learning music, the school has thrived over the years. Amarillo has a student body of 300 with 18 trainers – teaching a wide range of instruments; piano, organ, guitar, drums, conga, bongo, violin, saxophone, clarinet and flute. They also conduct speech and drama and voice training classes.

‘The Way to Amarillo’ is the school’s annual musical production for students to showcase their talents and work together as a diverse collective.

This year’s show is the biggest to date, comprising 30 separate performances. These will be varied in style and include such items as orchestral  performances, instrumental solos, instrumental and vocal group performances, drum fusions, theatrical performances and of course lots and lots of singing.

Audience can expect new songs such as Rihanna’s ‘Unfaithful’, Adele’s ‘Rolling in the deep’, Shawn Mendes’s ‘Mercy’ as well as old but very popular songs such as ‘Mamma Mia’ & ‘Heaven is a place on Earth’.

For those who love classical music, students will play piano pieces such as Aragonaise, Venetian Boat Song, Starlight Waltz and Mozart’s Turkish March.

There’s also a medley of popular Sinhala Songs sung by the adult students.

Michelle Mortier handles the choreography and the MC will be Arun Dias Bandaranaike.

For tickets and information, contact the Amarillo School of Music on 0718777111.

‘The Way to Amarillo’ is on April 7 at the Bishop’s College Auditorium.
