The army has completed repairs to 300 houses that were damaged due to the explosion at the ammunition dump of the Kosgama military base in Salawa. All these houses have now been handed over to their respective owners, the Sri Lanka Army stated. Reconstruction work on a further 74 houses commenced today (17), the army added.

A total of 1504 drinking wells in the area have also been handed back to their owners after being cleaned with the assistance of the navy and the Department of Irrigation.

Meanwhile, the army gifted 50 gas cookers to area residents affected by the tragedy during a ceremony held at the Sri Jayawardenaramaya Temple in Boralugoda, Kosgama yesterday.

The statement added that the army was continuing operations to restore damaged infrastructure in the area so that residents can get back to their normal lives.
