Strokes with a cause

Marie-Alles FernandoMarie-Alles Fernando will hold her latest exhibition of oil paintings this Christmas season in aid of a very worthy cause, a charity project of the Sri Lanka Medical Association of North America (SLMANA) in aid of breast cancer.

This exhibition is titled 'Celebrating the Jubilee Year 2000' and as in many past exhibitions celebrates the artist's deep attachment to her homeland.

What seems like a leisurely, unforced naturalism reveals remarkable reserves of energy and joie de vivre.

An artist with impressive credentials who has won innumerable awards from her schooldays at St. Bridget's Convent, Marie Alles Fernando has exhibited many times both in Sri Lanka and abroad.

Her last exhibition was to mark Sri Lanka's 50 years of independence.

Her latest exhibition will be held at the Queen's Court of the Trans Asia Hotel from December 28 to 30.

Travelling frequently to keep herself abreast of the latest happenings in the art world, Marie has just returned from viewing the John Singer Sargent exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, which she describes as 'magnificient'.
