Crazy J: Full time DJ & part time financial consultant

By Daffy Duck

Do you ever feel as if life is too much of a burden. Then something has to be done to ease the weight. There is a place of your own, a place where you can come in even with Business suit, then dance and hang out with your peers in a place set apart for those who work, work, and work. That's the newest night club in town "Colombo 2000" at Galadari Hotel. So who better than DJ Crazy J from London to carry you to that special place.

Jonathan Jayatillaka who goes as Crazy J, is 25 years of age, born and bred in UK. Parents are of course Sri Lankan. Crazy J's father is part-time lead singer in a band in UK. "It is his influence and support that made me become a DJ.

He got me the contacts at dances, clubs, and I even play with the band as its DJ. When they take a break (no! no! not with Kit Kat), I take over. It was 13 years ago. These were my student days. I have one older bro-ther, who is a qualified IT specialist and a younger bother stu-dying Ele-ctronic Engineering." Cra-zy J said.

"I am a fully qua-lified Financial Consultant (part time) and a DJ (full-time). Back home heavy DJing is done throughout the season. Only during January and February.

I give consultations. Rest of the year is year is devoted to music," said Crazy J who is on his 3rd visit to Sri Lanka The first two visits were with courtesy of Blue Elephant Night Club at Hilton Hotel. That was in 1992 and 1994, the in-house were the late DJ Ray and DJ Kapila.

Crazy J said it's a great experience to work for the newest night club in town with a new concept. "I have brought with me the latest albums, therefore the audience can enjoy a wide choice of pieces.

Also the DJing in Sri Lanka is quiet different from DJing in London.

Here you can play all types of music at one club, but in London each night club plays only one type of music. My personal choice is Soul & RMB.

I noted that many of the DJ's don't speak to the crowd. It makes the audience bored. I feel that there should be a mix between both. I am differently planning to use the microphone at the Colombo 2000" Crazy J. added.

My passion is sports cars, good food, and sleeping ( excuse: catching up with all the lost time) and going to other night clubs and listening to other DJ's in swing.

He's now in action at Colombo 2000, and will remain there till December 17.

Crazy J will also be doing a couple of shows with SUN FM.

'Colombo -2000', the popular entertainment centre at Galadari, opened its doors again last Tuesday. 'Alien Dancers', a dance troupe from Russia together with Crazy J will be in action at 'Colombo 2000' till December 12.
