On her recent visit to Sri Lanka, Bollywood star Juhi Chawla told us that her desire is to act in a Malayalam film for a change as she has appeared in a number of Hindi films. But she had doubts about Juhi Chawlathe language barrier. We hear from Bollywood that Juhi Chawla had played heroine in a Malayalam film opposite two super stars in Kerala,Mohanlal and Mommootty."We completed work in the film in less than thirty days.At first I was a bit excited as it was different from that of a Hindi film. But later I was so much taken up that I felt sorry the schedules ended"she said.

Incidentally Juhi Chawla was not conversant with Malayalam films or the stars when she signed the contract. But after working for a few hours in the film with the two Kerala super stars she gathered a lot on their talents."I sensed immediately that these two actors were really talented"Juhi Chawla told media men in Kerala. She had overcome all language barriers

These two Kerala stars were surprised when Juhi told that she had not seen any of their films.Mohanlal and Mommootty had thereafter given her several video cassettes of their films.

Juhi Chawla is now rehearsing for a whirlwind concert tour in the States and Canada and has completed another film under a versatile film maker Hrishikesh Mukherjee, titled 'Jhooth Bole Kauva Kaate ' She describes it as a 'simple film but with much incidents most appreciated by the audience.'

Once again Juhi Chawla spoke about her marriage to the media."I do not deny my marriage to Jai Methaand.

    'Kodivinaya': curse overtakes country

    By Kumaradasa Wagista

'Selecting the cast for the political satire 'Kodivinaya'was the most difficult exercise on the production Imageside, director Wilson Gunaratna said."I interviewed more than one hundred individuals to pick the characters, did camera tests, hair make ups, dialogue rehearsals and many more which cost money as well as time."Mr Gunaratna who has gained fame as a dramatist and journalist is a hotelier by profession. It was while watching a telefilm in London that he conceived the idea of making a political satire with a live cast in it.

He had tried his best to assign as many popular artistes in its cast, however most of the artistes are novices. Those thought most suitable were taken and made up by make up artist Asoka Weerasinghe.Mr Gunaratna is satisfied that the best available talent to suit many characters were chosen.Viewers too would like to see new faces coming on the screen.

Choosing a school as the centre of the plot with characters rotating round it was purely a non political approach.Characters cover the present principal and staff, previous principal and staff and parents of the pupils and are common in society. The present satire comprises 13 episodes."Depending on audience reactions I can even extend more "he said.Satirecally they cover the present and past in our country.

However every episode would begin with a well composed narration while the stories are based on selected timely current issues with a lot of satire and sarcasm. My intentions are very pure. There is no political motivation nor insult to anyone.I am satisfied if I could render some service to the future generation I would be the happiest"he said.

Mr Gunaratna thanked Independent Television Network for coming forward to televise 'Kodivinaya' and said a nation comprising various ethnic groups observing varied religious beliefs lived peacefully. The country was known as the Dhammadeepa throughout the entire world. But what has happened today?Today the entire country is a killing field.A grave mistake has taken place somewhere and that is the 'Kodivinaya'-the evil charm-befallen on the country and it should be freed.

Wilson Gunaratna who directed 'Kodivinaya' is playing a role in it.Ramanee Fonseka,Jinasena Indiketiya,Lionel Wickrema,Sesiri Wickrema,Nandana Uduwela,Hepathy Gunaratna,Nilanthi Heendeniya and Sujatha Paramanadan are the others in the cast.Chandra Tilak Gunaratna has scripted and the musical score is by Wimal J Sriyaratna.

McDonald's: fantastic food and fun for kids

    By Chamintha Thilakarathna.

Mmmm....they are soft, fresh and delicious. They are too large for the mouth to hold in one bite. And, with each bite, your taste buds can feel the ingredients and the flavours that have made them one of the world' s best you can find. And if it is burgers of such quality that you are looking for, where else do you find burgers that are made to tickle your taste buds long after but at the internationally imagerenowned McDonald' s outlets, of course.

At 498, Galle Road, Colombo 3, this is exactly what you can expect. McDonald' s core menu offers beef, vegetable, chicken and fish. And, they all come with the guarantee of 'halal'. Amongst those food categories are McDonald's famous brands: Big Mac Burger, Mc Chicken Burger, Vegetable Burger, Filet-O-Fish and scrumptious golden-crisp French fries. That is not all. No meal at McDonald's would be complete without a famous and mouth watering creamy Sundae and the extra thick milk-shake or a hot apple pie.

My favourites were the fries, ice creams and the shakes. The ice creams stood by the full implication of cream. Soft and tasty with their speciality chocolate and strawberry sauces. That is one ice cream that makes you want to eat more but cannot because one cup holds much more than your appetite imagecan consume.

And the shakes are thick, creamy and tasty. Any milk shake enthusiast would taste the difference. Of course, McDonald's also offer a variety of soft drinks and juices also. Even locally made favourites like 'ginger beer' and 'sodas'.

Similarly, the cheese and the sauces inside the burgers also has a touch of difference.

The restaurant is not only about the fantastic food. It also offers friendly young faces, that would make you want to go back. Made to accommodate at least 160 persons McDonald's offer a 'Happy Meal' for kids, which comes with a free gift. That is in addition to the fun filled 'play place' at the extreme right of the restaurant.

One might even bump into Ronald McDonald, the McDonald's ambassador to children and families.

The cozy atmosphere and the quality products imported to give the real taste of McDonald's will undoubtedly be an experience that cannot be explained, but needs to be experienced. But if it is the prices that you are worried about, Rusi Pestonjee, McDonald's licencee for Sri Lanka assures that they will be maintaining prices to suit the majority, and in keeping with the regular prices of food in Sri Lanka.
