Joint Chief of Staff soon?

There are whis pers in the top echelons of the defence establishment about structural changes in the armed services.

Insiders say these changes, if approved, will see the creation of a new post - Joint Chief of Staff. He will be the head of the tri services - a system which is similar to what is prevalent in the United States. The post will go to the senior most serving Comander.

The Commanders of the Army, Navy and Air Force will come directly under the Joint Chief of Staff. Blueprints are already being prepared, insiders say.

Top cops ride high

Who are the top cops who have left their official cars in garages and drawn Pajeros issued to Police Stations for their private use ?

One instance that is now being probed has bared some interesting details. One top cop (who is entitled to purchase his official car upon retirement) not only commissioned a Pajero issued to a Police Station for his private use, he even had the label 'Police' painted on the door erased.

Plan misfires

The political boss planned a psychological operation but the big boss not only frowned on the idea but ordered that it be called off. It happened two years ago and now intelligence circles are talking openly about it.

A tip off was to come through a telephone call from Canada. The informer was to say that the Tiger boss had arrived in some capital in the world. He was fleeing because his boys were getting a beating of their life time.

No details about the planner will be given. Lest other big league players commission his expert services.

Cops in mess

Whether or not some top cops should be sent on compulsory leave has become the hottest topic at high level conferences in the defence establishment.

The move follows findings by Presidential Commissions of Inquiry into various matters. A decision is due soon, one source said.

A timely move

Last week saw the birth of another battalion of the Military Intelligence Corps, a timely one when intelligence gathering has become a subject of high priority in the separatist war.
