View(s):

The President’s Office has imposed travel restrictions on ministers and senior officials during the upcoming budget debate.

Accordingly, all ministers have been told not to undertake official or private visits from the date of the budget on November 14 until the budget debate is completed on December 8 with the voting.

All ministry secretaries and additional secretaries of state ministries have been advised not to organise any overseas official visits by ministers and the issues involved could be handled through diplomatic missions.

In a circular, the President’s Office has said that ministers and senior officials should be informed of the decision.

The circular has also reminded the ministry secretaries and additional secretaries to send in their budget proposals as soon as possible.

The Budget is due to be presented to Parliament at 1.30 pm on November 14 by President Ranil Wickremesinghe in his capacity as Finance Minister. The debate on the Second reading is scheduled to take place on November 15 until November 22 ending with the vote. The Committee stage will be in progress from November 23 to December 8. The third reading vote has been fixed for December 8 at 5 pm.
