The 27th Annual Scientific Sessions of the Sri Lanka College of Sexual Health and HIV Medicine (SLCoSHH) will be held on October 28 and 29 as a hybrid event in Colombo.

The inauguration of the sessions on the theme ‘Follow the Science: Redesigning the Future of Sexual Health and HIV’ will be on Thursday (October 27) at the Hilton, Colombo.

The chief guest is Dr. Palitha Abeykoon, the WHO Director-General’s Special Envoy for COVID-19 and member of the WHO Global Preparedness Monitoring Board and the guest-of-honour Prof. Samath Dharmaratne, President of the Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA). A fellowship will be conferred on Dr. M.C.S. Ratnayake, Senior Consultant Sexual Health Physician in Australia.

The two-day scientific sessions which are being held under the leadership of SLCoSHH President Dr. Geethani Samaraweera at the Blue Water Hotel in Wadduwa will comprise several interesting symposia – ‘STIs in the Present Era’; ‘Living with HIV’; ‘Bridging the Gap: Engaging Communities’; ‘Redesigning the Future of Sexual Health and HIV’; ‘Sexual Health – Get the Facts Right’; and ‘Ending AIDS and thinking beyond 95:95:95’.

An expert panel of speakers including genitourinary and community medicine experts from the United Kingdom, Australia and Sri Lanka and WHO representatives as well as representatives from People Living with HIV will address the participants.

The pre-congress sessions, meanwhile, will be held on October 27 at the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine Academic Centre, in collaboration with the College of Psychiatrists and Family Health Bureau.

Sexuality is an integral part of human life and sexual health is of paramount importance for the wellbeing of men and women. The SLCoSHH is the academic and authoritative professional body in the fields of sexual health, sexually transmissible infections (STIs) and HIV medicine.

With the economic crisis the country is facing, the provision of uninterrupted services for STIs and HIV and sexual health services have become a challenge. The SLCoSHH is continuing its academic activities while providing its fullest support to the National STD/AIDS Control Programme of Sri Lanka to deliver uninterrupted sexual health services throughout the country.
