Funds collected by HelpAge Sri Lanka (HASL) by placing tills at countrywide super markets, city centres, banks, restaurants, shops, pharmacies and the BMICH in Colombo were highlighted at the HelpAge annual progress meeting held at HASL Head Office, Borelasgamuwa recently.

HASL says that the funds collected from tills are utilised to perform free cataract surgeries and mobile medical eye camps for underprivileged senior citizens in the country. The free cataract surgeries are conducted at HelpAge Eye Hospital, Sinsapa Road Wellawatta, Colombo 6.

HelpAge Executive Director Samantha Liyanawaduge thanked owners of the institutions for their cooperation in placing tills within their business premises.

“Our hospital has performed over 44,000 free cataract surgeries. We conduct 15-20 surgeries every day for senior citizens over 55 years,” he said.

HelpAge Head of Special Project Douglas Paranawithana made a request from interested persons to place HelpAge tills in their business and office premises to collect funds to improve the vision of elderly citizens. For further details please contact 07170122809 (Priyadarshani) or 0112803752,3,4.
