Reigning Schools League and Knockout champions, Isipathana College turned out to be the firm favourites at the ongoing Sri Lanka Schools Under-20 Rugby 7s Tournament which kicked off at Nittawela yesterday.

Isipathana had already booked their slot in the Cup quarter-final which will take place today with the powerful Isipathana booking their quarter final berth today and will meet the hometown side Dharmaraja in the first of four qualifiers. Vidyartha will take on Wesley in the second game while St. Joseph’s will meet traditional rivals St. Peter’s in the third quarter-final. The semi-final lineup of the Cup segment will be finalised after the game between D.S. Senanayake and Royal.

Yesterday Isipathana easily overcame Moratu Vidyalaya by 48-0 and went on to record another comfortable win against St. Sylvester’s by 41-0 to advance to the knockout stage. Dharmaraja, their opponents today in the qualifier, recorded a thumping 54-0 win against Sri Sumangala Panadura.

Meanwhile D.S. Senanayake handed favourites St. Anthony’s Katugastota a shocking 19-7 defeat to make a surprise entry to the Cup segment knockouts and send the Eagles out of contention in the top segment. Trinity, S. Thomas’, Science and Kingswood withdrew from the two-day tournament.
