After a lengthy lapse of public events, the Ladies’ College Old Girls Association (LC OGA) presents ‘Ace the Race’, a multi-sports event on October 15.

Having hosted many lively fairs and carnivals on the school grounds and school walks teeming with alumni clad in signature red and white in the past, the LC OGA is organising its first Triathlon for its latest event.

Dayanthi Samaranayake, Secretary of LC OGA said that the committee initially considered a motor rally when planning began in May this year, however, changed track in light of the worsening petrol crisis in the country, eventually deciding on a Triathlon. They have partnered with G360, a multi-sport events company to manage the event.

“We’ve planned it in such a way that we bring together students of Ladies’, the old girls, the Parent Teacher Association of Ladies’ College and we also wanted to extend it beyond to bring in a lot of team building, foster sportsmanship and make it an exciting event,” says Dayanthi. The event is also open to old boys’ unions, past pupils associations of other schools, corporate teams and more.

Ace the Race offers those interested a chance to participate in the Triathlon and for younger applicants, an Aquathlon at the Ladies’ College pool. For the Triathlon, athletes can take part in three categories of age groups; children aged 11-12 years old, teens aged 13 – 18 and adults aged 18 and above. Each team requires three members: a swimmer, a cyclist and a runner. Those under the age of 12 can register individually for the aquathlon according to the age groups: 4-6 years old, 7-8 years old and 9-12 years old.

Dayanthi adds that while the events are open to anyone who can declare that they are physically fit to compete, they encourage those who are experiencing difficulty in completing the distances to inform one of the officials – this will not result in disqualification. Medical partner for the event, Asiri Health will also have medical practitioners present at the event.

The funds generated will be used for the betterment of the school including the refurbishment of the Ladies’ College main hall and more. An all-day fair will be held concurrently on the school grounds with stalls offering goods and food, music and a horror house. Registration for the event ends on October 5. The registration fee for the Triathlon is Rs. 7500 per team and Rs 2500 per person and is inclusive of a T-shirt. Registration for the Aquathlon is priced at Rs. 1500 and entrance tickets for the school fair are priced at Rs. 500.

Payment can be made online or at the LC Old Girls’ Association office (open Monday, Wednesday and Friday) at 66, Sir Ernest De Silva Mawatha, Colombo 7.
