Dua Lipa made honorary ambassador for Kosovo
Dua Lipa has been appointed as a honorary ambassador for Kosovo by the country’s President Vjosa Smani-Sadriv. The 26 year old singer received a medal and certificate of her appointment from the President on 5th August in Pristina. Dua was born in England, while her parents were born in Kosovo. Meanwhile Dua Lipa performed at the Sunny Hill Festival in Kosovo last weekend.
‘I Ain’t Worried’ by OneRepublic crosses UK top 10
The only song that was able to cross into the UK top 10 this week was ‘I Ain’t Worried’ by OneRepublic. The song is the second single to be taken from the soundtrack of the movie Top Gun: Maverick. It has taken 10 weeks for the pop rock/sunshine pop (formally known as soft pop) to reach the top 10. The track began its journey at 96 creeping its way upwards. OneRepublic is led by the prolific song writer Ryan Tedder who is the lead singer of the US band. ‘I Ain’t Worried’ samples the Swedish group Peter Bjorn And John’s 2006 song ‘Young Folks’. ‘I Ain’t Worried’ is also OneRepublic’s sixth UK top 10 hit song. The band’s last appearance on the top 10 was when ‘Love Runs’ peaked at No: 3 in 2014.
Judith Durham of the Seekers passes away
Judith Durham the lead vocalist of the pop folk group the Seekers passed away on August 5 at the Alfred Hospital, Melbourne in Australia aged 79. She had been battling a chronic lung disease. Her career began in 1961. She was part of the Seekers scoring hit songs such as ‘I’ll Never Find Another You’ ‘Georgie Girl’ and ‘The Carnival Is Over’ among other popular others. Durham went solo recording 12 albums before re-joining the Seekers. While touring on the group’s farewell tour in 2013 to mark their 50th anniversary, Judith suffered stroke. She recovered and played with the group again. She was awarded the Order of Australia (AO) in the Queen’s birthday honours list in 2014 along with the other members of the band.
Olivia Rodrigo working on new music
Olivia Rodrigo is in the studio back in the US after completing a successful tour promoting her debut album ‘Sour’. Reports indicate the 19 year old is with her producer Dan Nigro working on her second album. Her debut album ‘Sour’ released in 2021 spawned the huge hits ‘Driver’s License’, ‘Déjà vu’, ‘Good 4 U’ and ’Traitor’.
Estate of singer Prince to be divided among half siblings
The estate of the singer Prince will be shared between his six half siblings. The decision was made by a judge in Minnesota, in the US on August 1. Prince died in 2016 but had not written a Last Will. The ‘Purple Rain’ singer’s estate will be divided into two equal companies, Prince Legacy LLC for the heirs and administrators and Prince Oat Holdings LLC for Primary Wave. The estate of Prince is estimated to be worth around $156 million.
