‘Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank’

Animated martial arts comedy film ‘Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank’, a story about a loveable dog with a head full of dreams about becoming a samurai, sets off in search of his destiny will be released in Sri Lankan theatres.

Directed by Rob Minkoff and Mark Koetsier, the film is a loose adaptation of the 1974 Mel Brooks film Blazing Saddles and it features the voices of Michael Cera, Ricky Gervais, Mel Brooks, George Takei, Aasif Mandvi, Gabriel Iglesias, Djimon Hounsou, Michelle Yeoh, and Samuel L. Jackson.

A hard-on-his-luck hound Hank (Michael Cera) finds himself in a town full of cats who need a hero to defend them from a ruthless villain’s (Ricky Gervais) evil plot to wipe their village off the map. With help from a reluctant teacher (Samuel L. Jackson) to train him, our underdog must assume the role of town samurai and team up with the villagers to save the day. The only problem… cats hate dogs.

In a land inspired by feudal Japan and almost entirely inhabited by cats, Ika Chu, a conniving high ranking official of the land’s Shogun, desires to expand his giant palace. However, it resides right next to the impoverished village of Kakamucho. Hoping to get rid of it, Ika Chu plans to force Kakamucho’s residents to abandon their town by sending a gang of thugs led by his flunky Ohga to trash the town and then wiping it out with his giant jade toilet. The townspeople demand that the Shogun appoint a new samurai to protect them after the old one flees. Ika Chu, hoping to offend the townspeople, create chaos and leave Kakamucho at his mercy before the Shogun arrives, decides to appoint Hank, a dog prisoner about to be executed with aspirations of becoming a samurai.

Premiered on July 10, 2022 in Los Angeles and was theatrically released in the United States on July 15, 2022, by Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies, by Huayi Brothers in China, and by Sky Cinema in the United Kingdom, the film was originally scheduled for release in 2017.
