SLTC Research University (SLTC), Sri Lanka, signs an MoU with the Indian Institute of Technology – Madras (IITM), India, for an inclusive partnership for academic, research and resource exchange.

SLTC Research University (SLTC) partnered with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) to further their contribution towards education and research along with widening provision for staff and student exchange programmes. The memorandum of understanding was signed on 12th of July 2022 in Madras, and marked the potential launch of several initiatives under this new partnership.

The partnership is expected to strengthen each institution’s contribution towards higher education and research on a global scale. The agreement unfolds several opportunities for student and staff exchange programmes, providing provision for cultural and intellectual opportunities for the participants of both countries, and enabling youth partnership programmes. Keen in contributing towards the enrichment in research and academic fields, the partnership paves way for the two institutes to collaborate on research and academic programmes on many fronts. The Chairman of SLTC Research University, Mr. Ajita De Zoysa along with its Board of Directors envisions intellectual enrichment and broader educational value additions that impacts socio-economic development and this partnership with IITM no doubt complements that vision.

The MoU will enable and open wide opportunities to the youth of Sri Lanka through a wide spectrum of collaborative axes that will present multiple opportunities in education, research and intellectual exchange programs. The academic programmes that may be on offer are structured in a manner that will expose students to a seamless flow of knowledge, industry know-how, practical experiences and skills development, in all aspects within multiple academic streams including Information Technology and Software Engineering, amongst a host of other domains.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Eng. Ranjith G. Rubasinghe, the Founder President / CEO of SLTC noted that “the broad scope of the MoU presents endless opportunities for the two institutions that will provide futuristic and global opportunities for the youth of Sri Lanka and India, whilst creating a platform that could be used to further strengthen and extend the close bilateral relations between the two countries”. Representing IITM, V. Kamakoti, the Director of IITM, was delighted to note that “this partnership between the two institutions would present immense cultural and intellectual enrichment opportunities, not only to staff and students of our institutions, but to a broader community as well”.

The engagements under the partnership will be spearheaded on behalf of the two institutions by Prof. Dushantha Jayakody – Director/Graduate Studies, Research & Impact and Dr. Nanda Gunawardane -Director/International Affairs at SLTC, and Prof Raghunathan Rengaswami, Dean, Global Engagement and Prof. Preeti Aghalayam, Faculty Advisor, International Programs at IITM.
