Fatal wait for 16 Sri Lankans in fuel lines

With two more death reported in separate fuel queues in Payagala and Bambalapitiya, the total number of persons who have died in such circumstances has increased to sixteen.

According to the police, a 60-year-old three-wheeler driver had collapsed and died on Thursday, while waiting in line at a fuel station in Payagala for over three days.

The victim, identified as a Moratuwa resident was working as a driver of a private company that runs mobile ice cream vans. He was pronounced dead on admission to Kalutara District General Hospital.

Meanwhile, another 60-year-old who was in a queue at a filling station in Bambalapitiya died on Thursday. The victim, who was a resident of Puttalam was staying with his daughter in Rajagiriya.

The post-mortem done by the Colombo Coroner determined that he had died of a heart attack. A family relative told the media that he had joined a queue to get fuel so that he could take his grandson who was sick, to the hospital the following day.
