SLFA holds 2nd Annual EFMP in June

The second Annual International Emerging Financial Markets and Policy Conference (EFMP 2022) of the Sri Lanka Finance Association (SLFA) was held virtually on June 17 hosted by the Department of Finance of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

This annual event is the flagship conference of the SLFA which is the premier association of academics, practitioners, professionals, policymakers, and students interested in finance in the context of Sri Lanka and worldwide to serve the national interests of Sri Lanka by engaging in research, conferences, seminars, education, dialogue, discussions, and other activities deemed appropriate for the purpose of the advancement of the field of finance and related areas.

The keynote speaker, Prof. Anup Basu of the Queensland University of Technology, Australia., —Vice-Chancellor, Senior Prof. Sudantha Liyanage, the Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Prof. P.D. Nimal, Head, Department of Finance of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, Prof. Chandana Gunathilaka, conference co-chair, Senior Prof. D.B.P. Hareendra Dissabandara—and the President of the SLFA, Prof. Lalith Samarakoon graced the inauguration, a media release said.

Prof. Dissabandara, Senior Executive Secretary of SLFA explained the objectives of the conference highlighting the current economic situation faced by Sri Lanka. Prof. Samarakoon delivered the President’s address on “Sri Lanka’s Economic Crisis: How did the Economy Come to a Halt? highlighting the major causes of the Sri Lankan economic crisis and necessary solutions.

Prof. Basu’s address focused on pension funds and the impact of digital transformation on finance. He discussed his research findings relating to pension systems including investment choices and strategies of target date funds or life cycle funds.
